About this course

This 60-minute online course provides a foundation in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and serves as a great starting point for other courses in the CoE suite. Participants will explore a core element of the Centre of Excellence in Emergency Worker Mental Health Competency Framework while building their knowledge about recognising, assessing, and applying best-practice interventions for individuals affected by trauma, particularly those in emergency service roles.

 

Course content:

By the end of the Spotlight on PTSD course, practitioners will be able to:

  • Apply a key element of the Centre of Excellence in Emergency Worker Mental Health Competency Framework in clinical practice.
  • Explain the historical development of PTSD and its relevance to contemporary clinical approaches.
  • Identify the diagnostic criteria for PTSD as outlined in the DSM and ICD.
  • Analyse the epidemiology of PTSD, including prevalence, gender differences, comorbidity, risk factors, course, and phenomenology.
  • Compare major etiological theories of PTSD and their implications for assessment and treatment.
  • Evaluate evidence-based treatments for PTSD and their application in clinical settings.
